Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on Internships
As a kick-off to the Innovation project „Enhancing Student Internships in Organisations” a Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on Internships was held on 12th October 2017 at Kyambogo University Kampala, Uganda.
The applied research project is funded in the frame of the YouMatch-Open Innovation Fund on Employment Services (OIFES). The YouMatch Innovation Fund complements the regional networks by providing grants and subsidies for implementing, testing and showcasing innovative approaches and solutions developed and co-created within our working groups. The research project is implemented by the National Council of Folklorists of Uganda as Lead Organisation, in cooperation with Kampala Capital City Authority – Employment Service Bureau (KCCA-ESB) and Community Empowerment for Rural Development (CEFORD).
The applied research project examines the quality of student internships considering the perspectives of interns, universities and employers. It will help to generate guidelines and recommendations to enhance the quality of internships in the country. In the frame of the project, these recommendations will be shared with the mentioned parties as well as policy-makers on national and regional level.
The workshop represented one of the key activities in the starting phase of this project as it brought together all of the involved stakeholders: students, employers as well as academic institutions for the first time. The participants have actively discussed different perceptions on student internships as well as the existing prerequisites and securing processes connected with student internships. Academia, Employers as well as students openly shared their knowledge and experiences with student internships in Uganda.
We would like to thank everyone for the dynamic discussions and fruitful outcomes as well as the suggestions for improvement that have already been brought forward. The Stakeholder Engagement Workshop has set a great foundation for the upcoming research and we are looking forward to the continuing progress of this exciting project.
