“What works? The effectiveness of youth employment programs” – during the two conference days in Berlin several very interesting studies concerning youth employment promotion tried to address this question.The conference formed part of a research project that the GIZ – Sector Project Employment Promotion is conducting together with RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The research project is financed by the Leibniz Association.

The closing policy panel, involving representatives from World Bank, ILO, European Youth Forum, Campbell Collaboration as well as the Government of Latvia and GIZ, confirmed that integrated approaches, addressing labour market supply and demand are essential. Moreover, has the systematic involvement of youth been emphasized as part of the solution.
